Thien Mu Pagoda is one of the best attractions that you can find in Vietnam. It is located on Ha Khe hill, in front of the Perfume River, about 5 kilometers from Hue City. This pagoda was built by Lord Nguyen Huang after hearing a story about the appearance of the heavenly Lady there. The name of Pagoda is taken from an ancient legend. It is told that there was an old woman appeared in the hill exactly where the pagoda stands today. She told the local people that a Lord would come and built a Buddhist pagoda and it will bring the prosperity for the country. After that, the Lord Nguyen Hoang instructed to build a pagoda and the name of “Heavenly Lady” was given.
The construction began in 1601 by the instruction of the Lord Nguyen Hoang and it has been renovated by the Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan in 1665. The Pagoda consists of two parts namely the front and the rear ends. It is found Phuoc Duyen tower in front of the pagoda which becomes an attraction in Hue. There is a main hall in rear part of the Pagoda, where the Buddha has been enshrined and the area where monks live and practice the Buddhism.
The road to the pagoda provides an outstanding view that cannot be missed especially during the afternoons when the boats traveled along the Perfume River. Therefore, don’t forget to bring a camera to memorize the beauty of pagoda and the environment. Getting there is easy. Get a plane from Chi Minh City or from Hanoi to Phu Bai Airport in Hue.
